Faldo Series arrives at Stapleford Park
Adam Pike, 19, from Peterborough, and 17 year-old Oliver Bennett, from Leicester, were joint winners in the Faldo Series tournament at Stapleford Park Country House Hotel, which took place on Friday June 29th, 2007.
With tough conditions following a bout of extremely wet weather, Bennett and Pike achieved matching one under par 72s to claim victory ahead of a field representing some of the best young golfing talent in the region. The win has guaranteed both players a spot in the Faldo Series regional final at Marriott Forest of Arden on 29th August. Qualification for the tournament is reserved for the four players in each age category with the lowest aggregate score over two tournaments and the last spot proved a difficult one to secure today with three age categories having to be decided by a playoff – one of which (the Boys Under 17 category) lasted four holes.
Nick Faldo established the Faldo Series in Europe in 1996 bringing opportunities for young people through golf and to help identify and nurture the next generation of champions. 60 players qualify for the prestigious Faldo Series grand final, hosted each year by Nick at The Celtic Manor Resort in South Wales, home of the Faldo Series and Ryder Cup venue 2010.
The course at Stapleford Park, which plays host to the HSBC Amateur Regional Match Play sometime in August this year, feels proud with the arrival of the Faldo Series. Stapleford Park looks forward to more of these kind of regional and national tournament series to be played at Stapleford Park. |
